Emily Lucas Receives An "Award of Excellence" In Volleyball

Emily Lucas was chosen this spring by the KVA (Kansas Volleyball Association) as a Senior All-Star. The top 24 players in the state practiced Friday & Saturday, (June 5-6) and were honored at a banquet and played a five set match in Topeka Saturday evening. Emily was on the "red" team who defeated the "blue" team in all five sets. That evening she was chosen to receive the:
Joan Lundstrom Wells Award of Excellence
The Kansas Volleyball Association awarded the first Joan Lundstrom Wells Award of Excellence in 1999. The award was established in honor of Joan Lundstrom Wells, the long-time coach of Lawrence High School.
Coach Wells was the first volleyball coach at Lawrence High and led the program for 27 years. During her tenure, her teams won 15 state championships and 16 Sunflower League championships. She finished her coaching career at the conclusion of the 1997 season with a record of 866-89. Coach Wells had 29 former players go on to compete at the NCAA Division I level.
The Joan Lundstrom Wells Award of Excellence is awarded annually at the All-Star Match.
